Six entries in the St. Clair County Smoke-free Team’s Great American Smoke-out contest on November 17th were selected to receive a free hypnosis session with local “Change Your Mind” psychologist William Miskell, Ph.D. All 6 participants submitted their top five reasons for wanting to quit smoking and why they believed hypnosis may assist them in their cessation efforts. Reasons for quitting were quite similar among entries and the most frequently cited reason was to be a better role model for their children and grandchildren. Sessions are scheduled to take place during December. Follow-up contact will be made with the participants to determine their smoking status at 3, 6 and 12 months. Hypnosis is one option that may help smokers quit.
