Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and disables more adults than any other condition. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain becomes blocked or bursts. The result can be as serious as brain damage or even death, and with  some 750,000 strokes a year St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron believes it is a priority to provide the community with the most high-tech treatment for the emergent stroke victim, and has announced it recently obtained a new remote presence telemedicine stroke robot through its affiliation with the Michigan Stroke Network (MSN). This second robot offers advances available nowhere else in the community for the treatment of stroke patients. The self-propelled robot provides for one-to-one communication between stroke neurologists and neuroendovascular specialists located at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, Pontiac, MI., and the clinical staff, patients and family members in the Emergency Department at SJMPH.
