Purdy Fisheries, a Point Edward-based business along with Lake Huron pickerel will be featured on an upcoming episode of the Food Network’s Pitchin’ In. On the show, celebrity chef Lynn Crawford visits food producers across the country, learning the operations and moving on to preparing gourmet meals based on a single local ingredient. The Sarnia Observer reports that Crawford spent four days at Purdy’s in May of last year. The four day visit entailed all the dirty work as well as the fun that comes with the fisheries business, and Crawford wrapped up her time by preparing a meal around pickerel, by creating a fiddlehead soup with a pickerel quenelle and asparagus slaw, among a few other dishes. Purdy Fisheries was founded by W.J. Purdy in 1900, and now includes several retail locations. Purdy’s Pitchin’ In episode will air January 16 at 11:30 p.m., and it is expected to repeat throughout the rest of the network season.
