The 2012 Port Huron International Silver Stick Finals kicked off yesterday and will run through Sunday, so you will probably be seeing a number of hockey teams around town The tournament will return to Port Huron Jan. 26-29 after a week in Sarnia. A number of the games will be played at the McMorran Civic Center with opening ceremonies tonight at 7:30 p.m. in McMorran’s main area. Silver Stick has been a Port Huron tradition for 50 years and draws teams from across North America. This weekend, 24 PeeWee AAA teams and 40 Bantam AAA teams are competing. Along with Silver Sticks, Port Huron will host Chilly Fest on January 28 and 29. A chili cook-off, a meet-and-greet with former Red Wing Kirk Maltby, ice carving, horse and carriage rides, bed races, and other activities are scheduled for Chilly Fest 2012.
