Two of the largest townships in the county have voted unanimously to send letters to the St. Clair County commissioners to ask that the question of buying bonds to fund a convention center for the Blue Water Area be put on a ballot during the next general election. Fort Gratiot Township supervisor Doug Hannan told WGRT, “this is a lot of money and the township board feels taxpayers should be given the opportunity to vote on whether or not they want their taxes raised to pay for the bonds.” County Administrator Bill Kaufman told us the county filed notice on January 10th of their intention and has 45 days to hear from the public before the next step is taken. Kaufman stated county commissioners will more than likely have discussion concerning the advice of Fort Gratiot and Port Huron Township officials.
