The Port Huron Police Department continues investigation into a traffic crash that has resulted in the death of a 41 year old Port Huron resident. The crash occurred Tuesday of this week at 3:50pm in the intersection of 16th Street and Beard. The intersection was closed for several hours while accident investigators policed the scene.  Initial investigation indicates a van traveling east on Beard ran the stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck traveling south on 16th Street. The van left the roadway after the impact and struck a utility pole.  The driver of the van, identified as Danielle Carter, 41 of Port Huron was airlifted to U of M Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. The passenger in the van was treated and released from a local hospital. The driver of the pickup, believed at this time to not be at fault fled the scene on foot. A passenger in the pickup also received serious injuries and is currently being treated.  Alcohol may have been a factor. The investigation is continuing.
