Members of the Algonac City Council approved a resolution, 6-1, yesterday to move forward with hiring Doug Alexander as the next city manager.  The resolution allowed current City Manager Karl Tomion to check Alexander’s references and enter into negotiations for a proposed employment agreement to take back to council for approval.   The resolution also state that if a deal cannot be negotiated with Alexander, Tomion will into negotiations with a second candidate, Joshua Brown of Clayton, Ohio.  If those fail,, the resolution calls for the city to start a formal search process through the Michigan Municipal League.  The City Council met Sunday afternoon to  interview three candidates — Alexander, Brown and Michael Burns of Sterling Heights — for the city manager position. Tomion will be retiring March 9.  Doug Alexander is currently employed as the city manager of Essexville and has worked as the former executive director of the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County and former assistant to the city manager of Port Huron.
