An accident yesterday afternoon on Lapeer Avenue just east of 24th Street in Port Huron sent two people to the hospital. Traffic was partially blocked for a time as Port Huron Fire Department crews worked to clear the wrecked cars. Reports say that a car heading eastbound on Lapeer Avenue carrying five Shelby Township residents made a left turn on to Rural Street into the path of a westbound vehicle. Both cars had front-end damage. The impact apparently sent both cars into the front of a semi-truck that had stopped at the intersection of Lapeer Avenue and Rural Street. The driver and passenger of the one vehicle, which are reported to be a Port Huron couple in their 70s, were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Both front airbags of their car deployed in the crash. No other injuries were reported.
