The Algonac City Council unanimously approved a contract last night during a special meeting to hire Doug Alexander, former executive director of the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County and current Essexville city manager, to replace the retiring Karl Tomion as City Manager. Alexander will begin in his position April 16, under a contract that has no term limit and continues until it’s severed by either the council or Alexander. Alexander will be paid an annual salary of $72,000 and will receive five months of severance pay if he is fired by the council. The contract requires Alexander to give a 45-day notice should he wish to resign. Tomion will serve as interim city manager from March 9 to April 16 when Alexander takes his position.
