One day I was walking through our local museum and it hit me just how much of our local history is captured in news stories and news photographs. We can all be grateful for The Times Herald and the great job they have done over the years telling our local story. A few days ago, I was sitting in the office of a nonprofit, and I noticed the stack of newspaper clippings on the desk. Over the years, the newspaper had told the story of their organization and every article was being carefully saved. Our local newspaper often comes under withering criticism. But be careful what you wish for, because when a community losses its local paper, it also losses the organization and the people most capable of telling our story and preserving it for generations to come.
