St. Clair County Community College will offer a health unit coordinator program on the college’s Port Huron campus. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Wednesday from March 19 to July 2. This program will prepare students for entry-level careers performing clerical duties in health care facilities, including work as a health unit coordinator, medical secretary or patient coordinator. Students will learn to coordinate the activities of a hospital nursing unit and other health care settings. Clerical and non-clerical functions, customer service skills, oral and written communication skills, computer operations, medical order transcription and basic medical terminology will be reviewed. The training will prepare students for certification through the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators.
