Jim Relken, president of James A. Relken Companies and Former Port Huron Mayor.has introduced a project to Port Huron City Council entitled “Clean Sweep.” The event will take place the weekend of May 5 and 6, and will incorporate the clean up of three area cemeteries, Lakeside, Mount Hope and Allied Veterans Memorial cemeteries along Gratiot Avenue between Holland and Krafft roads. Relken says the properties could use raking – trash pickup and even some painting. He is hoping businesses will donate their services for chores like trimming overgrown trees, repaving entry drives and filling potholes with gravel. Relken says monetary donations would be welcome and would go to the overall cemetery fund. He has set up a 24-hour call line for businesses to report what services they’ll be contributing to the effort.
