While, St. Clair County Commissioner David Rushing says there is a lot of potential for jobs and good things to come from a convention center, he also has a great deal of concern when it comes to the burden the county taxpayers may face. He says he wants guarantees on the promised funding sources. Rushing wants to see a set amount of TIFA the county will receive from the city. Rushing says, he has been told that TIFA money is not guaranteed. Rushing also wants to know “who will pick up that tab” if the monies do not come through as expected. He wants to know who will be accountable if The Twisted Rooster or the Hilton decide to move on and pull out after a couple of years. Rushing says he wants specifics on what the city is going to do for streets entrancing and exiting the property. Another thought, he added, is what is going to happen with McMorran when larger events move to the new convention center, and McMorran sees an increased reduction in funds? He says this needs to be part of the discussion.
