Last night’s St. Clair County Board of Commissioners Ways and Means Committee meeting saw a vote to send a proposal to issue $9 million in bonds to support a proposed convention center project. Commissioners David Rushing and Steven Simasko voted against the move. Simasko stated he feels the issuing of these bonds should go to a vote of the general public and Rushing says he feels the financial burden to county will be too great. Also on the agenda was a review of development agreement between the county and JB Real Estate Development an agreement between Port Huron and the county, both for the convention center project. John Wheeler of JB Real Estate Development told WGRT this week he is pleased with agreements and is ready to move forward as soon as the papers signed. St. Clair County Administrator Bill Kaufman says they are continuing to look toward the end of April, first of May for the closings.
