Shot Man Arraigned On Criminal Sexual Conduct Charges Among Others

Edward Malinowski

47-year-old Edward Malinowski of Fair Haven was arraigned Friday  on charges of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree; assault with a dangerous weapon; assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer; and felony firearm. He was arrested Wednesday after his release from the hospital, following an incident on March 18th, with a former Marine city police officer that led to Malinowski being shot by that officer.  Malinowski has a preliminary exam at 9:30 a.m. April 18 in front of St. Clair County District Court Judge Mike Hulewicz in Marine City. He is in the St. Clair County jail on a $500,000 cash surety bond.  The sexual conduct charge refers to an alleged misconduct with a victim who is at least 13 years old and less than 16 years old, and is being charged as an incest case.  The alleged victim in the sexual misconduct case is now an adult. It is reported that former Marine City police Detective Mike Dekun was called to the bridge over the Belle River at Fairbanks Street and Belle River Avenue about 2:30 a.m. March 18 for a suicidal subject. Upon arrival, Malinowski allegedly pointed a gun at the officer, the officer ordered Malinowski to drop the weapon several times before shooting him.  Dekun returned to full duty March 29, but he resigned the following day for personal reasons
