PH Fire Chief Retiring

Port Huron Fire Chief  Robert Eick will be retiring from duty on July 1. An agreement between Port Huron and Marysville is currently being drafted that will allow for a joint operation between the two cities for fire protection services, with one chief over both departments.  Tom Konik, Marysville’s current fire chief would step into that position.  Over five years, officials say, joint operations could save Port Huron $3 million and save Marysville $1 million.  The savings would come from having one fire chief, and paying less overtime because the departments would back up each other on calls.
