Council On Aging Art Auction Open To The Public

Rose Norton, Fundraising Committee Chairperson, Cecil Harrison; and Art Auction Honorary Chairperson, Hon. Cynthia Lane with the picture Marlin Art is creating into an oil painting for the Council on Aging’s Art Auction.

The Council on Aging’s 9th Annual Art Auction on Friday, April 20th will include a special “Heirloom Painting” created from the photographic works of area native, Rose Norton.  Rose, the owner of Norton’s Portraits of Distinction in Port Huron has been a professional photographer in the Blue Water Area for the past 28 years.  In the past she has provided photographs for fundraisers for the United Way, Girl Scouts, Breast Cancer Awareness, and other groups.  This year the Council on Aging is happy to have her picture of the Blue Water Bridges and the Huron Light Ship being made into an oil painting that will be framed and auctioned during their fundraiser.  One hundred percent of the selling price of this piece will go to the Council on Aging.  It will be on display prior to the start of the Auction at the Port Huron Senior Center.  The Auction begins April 20th with a preview party from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, desserts, coffee and champagne and musical entertainment as attendees view the 151 pieces that will be auctioned beginning at 7 p.m..  Staff from Marlin Art will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the value and estimated starting bids on the pieces.  Opening bids on each piece is up to 50% below traditional gallery prices. Frames are included with the picture or painting as they are exhibited.  The Auction is open to the general public.  Those attending, whether they purchase artwork or just take in the atmosphere of the auction, will have an entertaining evening and learn a lot about the artwork and the artists who are featured.  Tickets for the evening are $15 per person or $25 per couple and can be purchased at the door that evening, at any of the area senior centers, or from CoA Board members prior to the evening.  For more information contact Mary Taylor at the Council on Aging at 810-987-8811.
