MDOT and City of Port Huron Explore Options For a One-Way Connector

The Michigan Department of Transportation and the city of Port Huron are proposing to build a 400-foot-long, one-way connector from the end of the ramp on Pine Grove Avenue across a now vacant lot to Harker Street.  The improvement officials say are needed to serve the development projects on the Thomas Edison Inn property. Private developers plan to renovate the current building into a Hilton DoubleTree with the inn’s restaurant being a Twisted Rooster; also included in the construction plans are a convention center and Baker College plans to build a culinary institute, with future student housing planned for the site.  Funds for the connector from Pine Grove to Harker, would come MDOT about a half million dollars…and the city of Port Huron would make the Harker Street improvements, an estimate of about $1.2 million.  According to city engineer, Bob Clegg, the city would seek brownfield funding for the improvements.
