Information is being sought by Chesterfield Township police regarding an early morning burglary Monday at Marquis Jewelers on 3 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township. According to a statement the police department released Thursday, say suspects began the theft by disabling phone lines to the jewelers and connected businesses within the strip mall shortly after midnight Monday. They gained access to the jewelry store by opening the back door of a vacant business next door and, and from that business, made a hole in the connecting wall. A safe was removed from the store estimated at about six-feet tall and weighing about 2,700 pounds. Shortly after 3:45 a.m., the safe was taken away in a truck. Anyone with information regarding the burglary or anything suspicious during that time is asked to call the Chesterfield Township Detective Bureau at (586) 949-2450 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
