Port Huron Township’s planning commission has approved site plans for the location of a Menard’s store at the former Port Huron Area School District Chippewa Middle School property. The board of trustees will be looking at the site plans at tonight’s regular township meeting. Bob Lewandowski, Port Huron Township supervisor expects the site plans to be approved. The school district approved the $3.4 million sale in November and according to reports the deal could see a closing on the property next month, with demolition of buildings starting soon afterward. It has been reported that the home improvement company would like to see a spring 2013 opening which would bring about 170 jobs to the local area.
