Port Huron Fire Chief Moves Retirement Date To Original Date

Robert Eick

Retiring Port Huron Fire Chief Bob Eick has declared his candidacy for State Representative from the 83rd District.  During a recent meeting it was mentioned that Eick’s continued employment with the City of Port Huron might be in violation of the Hatch Act.  Eick told WGRT that essentially the Act requires that an employee who has received or could receive federal funds could not remain as an employee if he/she opts to run for a partisan office. While Chief Eick has not directly received any federal funds as it relates to his salary and fringe benefit package, he has managed a department that does. After discussion, Chief Eick and Brown have agreed that he will retire at his original retirement date of June 1st.  Because of the anticipated changes in the Fire Department over the next couple of months, Brown told WGRT that he has requested Fire Captain Mark White to serve as the Interim Chief during the transition, to which White has agreed.
