There are occasions when hospitalized patient’s families would find it more convenient to stay close by the hospital. Hunter Hospitality House, which is located right across the street from Port Huron Hospital is now offering that service to families in need. According to co-founder of Hunter Hospitality House, Tracy Willard, the primary goal is to ensure that no one ever needs to sleep in a chair or on a lobby couch, or rush from their house or hotel, in order to be on call when they’re needed most for their hospitalized loved ones. Hunter Hospital House opened on December 7, 2011, providing free lodging to families, along the lines of a bed & breakfast for those families dealing with illness. Jeff and Tracy Willard developed this dream having experienced those needs when their son Hunter was born two months prematurely and was in and out of the hospital over several days of his short live. Hunter passed away just before Christmas, on Dec. 23, 1991. Twenty years after his death Hunter Hospitality House became a reality, opened its doors and has in the past six months, housed 30 people needing a place to stay, while their loved ones were being cared for at Port Huron Hospital.
