St. Clair County Community Mental Health will host a workshop for parents titled “Hands-on Sensory Integration for Kids” on Thursday, June 21st from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at 3111 Electric Avenue in Port Huron. The workshop will be led by Kim Perrin, Occupational Therapist. Sensory integration refers to the ability to understand information received from the senses. The five senses include sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. A child with sensory integration disorder has difficulty processing information received from their senses. Therapy to address sensory integration disorder involves stimulating the senses in a controlled environment and in a structured manner. During the workshop, parents will learn techniques they can use at home with their children to stimulate sensory integration. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, please call Marcy Cameron at (810) 966-7814.
