The Blue Water Area Chamber of Commerce is reminding area businesses that Canadian traffic is expected to increase the last weekend in June and first week of July due to a long Canada Day weekend. There may be some confusion this year for store closings as July 1 falls on a Sunday. The Canadian federal Holidays Act indicates that when July 1 is a Sunday, July 2nd is a legal holiday and shall be kept and observed as such throughout Canada under the name of “Canada Day”. Vicki Ledsworth of the Blue Water Chamber of Commerce says, “We learned the importance of Canadian buying power two years ago when a study indicated that nearly $60 million a year is spent locally on shopping, dining and entertainment, gas and services. The Chamber has listed all Canadian holidays on the community calendar at www.bluewaterchamber.com/news-events so businesses can plan for staffing, advertising and specials in advance.
