During a special meeting Tuesday night, Algonac City Council approved a three-year contract for the St. Clair County Sheriff Department to provide police service in the city of Algonac. They will no longer have their own police department. The agreement will cost the city $1,988,498, but will save the city $500,000 to $640,000 during the three years, according to City Manager Doug Alexander. The Service from the sheriff department begins October 1st and will include 30 hours of patrol per day, with one deputy in the city every hour of the day and two deputies working within the city for six hours a day.
