Floaters entered the water at Lighthouse Park in Port Huron about 1 p.m. and let the current carry them to Chrysler Beach in Marysville. Thousands turned out for the annual Float Down event.  Many floated, but there are a great number of people who just come out to enjoy the day and watch those who make the trip down the river.  The event was shut down in 1988 by the U.S. Coast Guard, citing safety concerns. It was brought back in 2008.  According to reports, even though the air and water temperatures were on the chillier side, there were no serious injuries and the crowd seemed to be pretty well under control and enjoying the day.
