Man Dies Following Crash

A 73 year old Lexington man has died from injuries sustained in a crash Tuesday morning.  According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, Lawrence DeMeyer was driving his van southbound in the 5500 block of Lakeshore Road in Fort Gratiot Township Tuesday morning at about 10:15, when a truck crossed the centerline and struck his vehicle head on.  DeMeyer’s dog was killed in the crash.  DeMeyer was transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to Port Huron Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 p.m.  The driver of the truck, 28 year old Melissa Helmold of Applegate and her passenger, 30 year old Jeremy Whitenight of Fort Gratiot were also transported to local hospitals.  The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the  crash and  are asking for anyone who observed either vehicle prior to the crash to contact Detective Steve Rickert at (810) 987-1731 with any information they might have.
