With beautiful weather and over 125 people in attendance the United Way of St. Clair County kicked off its 2012 Annual Fund Raising Campaign Tuesday at the Masonic Temple in Port Huron. This event not only kicked off the United Way Campaign but also included an event that culminated a special year of service project to honor the victims of September 11th, 2001. Jeff Beckett, Owner of Port City Companies, and the 2012 Campaign Chair announced a Campaign Goal of $1,400,000 as this year’s target. Beckett says “The Campaign Team believes that this is an attainable goal, the key will be in growing the participation.” Lonnie Stevens, Executive Director of the United Way of St. Clair County led the second half of the event which was a tribute to the victims of the 9-11-01 tragedy. A Peace Pole Walk was led by the Volunteer Action Center Committee, with Matthew Wallace leading the attendees in a musical tribute of America The Beautiful.
