At the Port Huron City Council meeting Monday night, Mayor Pauline Repp stated that Port Huron and Marysville Fire Chief Tom Konik gave his first quarterly report to council. The report stated that while the two departments have blended well, and services are being provided as expected the savings the merger of the two departments’ administration was expected to make has been eaten up by the additional overtime costs associated with having as many as five firefighters on long-term leave for illness or injury. Port Huron had anticipated a $350,000 savings. The two departments are on track to spend about $7 million this fiscal year. Mayor Repp stated they will be keeping an eye on their costs.
