The Port Huron City Manager is once again on the lookout for a buyer for the Water Street Marina. Port Huron City Council members at last night’s meeting approved conveying the 26-acre marina to the city from Hotel Development Services, the Ohio-based company that purchased the marina in 2009. According to Mayor Pauline Repp, Hotel Development has not been able to come up with the financing for their plans of a 98-room Holiday Inn Express and restaurant on the waterfront, as well as the funds to renovate the marina. They purchased the property in June 2009 for $300,000, and the purchase agreement required construction of the hotel begin by June 2011. That deadline passed and they were given a one-year extension. At this point the city has the option to buy the property back. Mayor Repp says she has been told by City Manager, Bruce Brown that others have expressed interest in the property.
