Last evening, the partners, investors and businesses behind the new Baker College Culinary Institute, Convention Center, Hilton Double Tree Hotel and the Freighters Restaurant hosted a reception and tours of the facility for local stakeholders and partners. Work began October 1st on the College’s Culinary Institute and work is currently being done on the exterior as well as the interior of the hotel. President of Baker College Port Huron Connie Harrison said 27 students have enrolled this fall for the program, and they hope to have the facility up and running for classes in late March or early April. John Wheeler of Orion Construction told WGRT their goal is to have the hotel functional by June of 2013. County Administrator Bill Kaufman says we should see the beginnings of breaking ground on the convention center by late Spring.
