Jessica Kranson

St. Clair County Community College student Jessica Kranson of Port Huron has won second place and a $1,000 scholarship in the national DREAM Big for College and Your Future Video Challenge. Kranson also was one of several finalists selected for an-all expenses paid trip to the Achieving the Dream 2013 conference in Anaheim, Calif.  The contest asked students to make an informal video answering the question “What is your dream job and how is your college helping you get there?” The 10 videos that received the most votes online then were judged by a panel. Kranson’s video explains how she moved from Warren to Port Huron to attend SC4 and pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse practitioner. She was accepted to SC4’s nursing program in 2012 after being on the wait list for several years at other schools.

The contest was sponsored by Achieving the Dream, in partnership with GOOD and GOOD Maker, and was open to students at colleges who are members of Achieving the Dream. Achieving the Dream is a national nonprofit organization that helps community colleges identify strategies to improve student success, close achievement gaps and increase retention, persistence and completion rates. SC4 joined Achieving the Dream in 2010.
