The cause of the house fire that claimed the life of a 62 year old Grant Township woman cannot be determined. According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the St. Clair County Fire Investigation Team went to the location of the fire, at 6655 Cline Road. However, due to the extensive damage to the structure, the cause is not known. The origin of the fire was in the basement. Grant Township Fire and Rescue, along with Burtchville, Fort Gratiot and Kenockee Township Fire Departments battled the blaze, which started shortly after 1:00 a.m. on November 26th. The victim, Constance Falk, was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no indication of smoke detectors present in the house. The St. Clair County Fire Investigation Team would like to remind everyone to have working smoke detectors in your house. They are your best early warning system for survival in a house fire. Make sure to check your smoke detectors regularly to ensure they are functioning properly and change the batteries at least twice a year.
