New Year’s Eve Anchor Drop

December 31, 2012
By

Live music in a heated beer tent and open skating in the Main Arena are highlights of the very first McMorran New Year’s Eve Anchor Drop Community Celebration in downtown Port Huron. The event will be capped off at midnight when a lighted anchor will descend from the top of the McMorran Tower. The tower, an architectural feature at McMorran Place, is 150 feet high. The event, will begin at 8:30 p.m. and continue until 12:30 a.m. on January 1.  It is open to the public and there is no admission charge for open skating that night nor for admission into the beer tent. McMorran does not rent skates, so ice skaters need to bring their own skates. Concessions will be sold in the Main Arena and beverages will be sold in the beer tent.  According to Patti Samar, chair of the McMorran Authority Commission, “We are so excited about hosting a really unique New Year’s Eve event that we hope will become a long-standing tradition in the Blue Water Area. We really hope people come downtown, have dinner and spend some time at McMorran enjoying the entertainment or skating, and then, of course, watching the anchor drop at midnight.”
