The Port Huron Police department is looking for people who would like to participate in the Citizens’ Police Academy.  This is a free program, that runs from February 5 to April 23 every Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  The academy will teach about different aspects of the police department, including special units, traffic stops, domestic violence, crime scene processing and arrest procedures. The classes include lectures and hands-on activities.  Upon graduation from the academy, attendees are eligible to be part of Volunteers in Policing program and may volunteer some time each week at the police department.  Volunteer work includes helping with patrols, working at special events and helping with administrative duties. The department currently has about 37 volunteers who have gone through the Citizens’ Police Academy.  Applications for the academy will be accepted through January 11.  You must be over the age of 21, and you may call Officer Adrianne at 984-9715.
