Public Safety Department Head To Be In Place Next Week

January 10, 2013
By

Chief Michael Reaves

Port Huron City Manager Bruce Brown told WGRT yesterday that the city will be combining its police and fire departments to form a public safety department.  The information was presented during a staff meeting last week.  Police Chief Michael Reaves will oversee both the police department and fire department and officers and firefighters will not cross over in responsibilities as is the custom in some public safety departments.  At the meeting Monday night the city council is expected to end its contract with Fire Chief Tom Konik, back-dated to the end of December of last year.  Marysville Fire Chief Konik became chief over both cities in July after an attempted collaboration.   Marysville opted out of the merger in December saying it did not result in any savings for the city.  Chief Reaves is expected to take his new position on Tuesday of next week.
