St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Fist and handler Deputy Mike Pink had a productive and busy year in 2012, according to statistics released by the department. Fist responded to a total of 308 calls for service last year, mostly involving narcotics. He was responsible for the confiscation of more than 30 pounds of marijuana, more than a half kilo of cocaine and smaller quantities of methamphetamine and heroin. He also detected a total of more than 150 ecstasy tablets in several separate incidents. Deputy Pink and Fist are certified and members of the Border Enforcement Security Team (B.E.S.T.), which allows them to work with U.S. Customs and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), at the Blue Water Bridge and elsewhere. They also assisted nearly every police department in St. Clair County in a narcotics capacity, along with conducting school sweeps for drugs in St. Clair, Oakland and Macomb Counties. Fist also participates in a public relations capacity. Anyone attending a parade in the county probably saw Fist and Deputy Pink march near Sheriff Donnellon. Fist also participated in the East China Bark for Life, Boy Scouts events and the Port Huron Police Department 9/11 ceremony, among other events. “Fist has been an outstanding addition to our department since he started,” said Sheriff Tim Donnellon. “Deputy Pink has done a great job in keeping Fist up to speed with training. Fist is also now trained and certified in tracking, so I am sure he and Deputy Pink will be busy once again this year.”
