Jeff Thomson was elected president of the YMCA of the Blue Water Area at the board’s annual meeting. Thomson, Information Technology Manager, Application Support of SEMCO Energy, Inc. assumes this role during a year when the Y is expanding community partnerships throughout the Blue Water Area, bringing back the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament and hosting the first Blue Water Half Marathon. “Our YMCA has been blessed with wonderful people who care about our community,” said Denise Brooks, Executive Director/CEO of the YMCA of the Blue Water Area. “I’m looking forward to working with Jeff and using his talents to make our Y stronger.” Thomson has been involved since 2010, when he accepted a role on the board and as a member of the Marketing Committee. Most recently he has served as vice president of the board and member of the Executive Committee. In addition to the YMCA of the Blue Water Area, Thomson has been involved with several local organizations. He is treasurer of the St. Clair county Child Abuse/Neglect Council, Inc., on the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church and past board member of Port Huron Golf Club. Outgoing president Mike Cansfield, vice president of First Preferred Mortgage Company, will remain on the board and continue as chairman of the Y’s Marketing Committee. The meeting also featured the election of Janice Rose, E & A Credit Union President/CEO, as vice president. Mona Armstrong, Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will continue her role as secretary and Dave McElroy, Accounting Manager at Blue Water Area Transit remains the Y’s treasurer. In addition, the board welcomed three new members: Jill Bulgrien, Manager of HR at E & A Credit Union, Geof Kusch, MD, Becky Smith, President/CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital – Port Huron and Tim Ward, Eastern Michigan Bank President/CEO.
