To commemorate 90 years of community involvement, St. Clair County Community College is inviting local residents to help donate 90 bowls to Mid City Nutrition for its annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. Residents are invited to SC4’s ceramics studio from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, to create a ceramic bowl by hand. Pottery instructors will be available to assist. The ceramics studio is in Room 30 of the Fine Arts Building on SC4’s Port Huron campus. The project is one of numerous events planned in 2013 as SC4 celebrates its 90th anniversary. The bowls will be donated to Mid City Nutrition in Port Huron for the Friday, March 22, Empty Bowls fundraiser, which benefits the soup kitchen. At the event, guests are served a simple meal and choose a bowl to take home as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the soup kitchen at Mid City Nutrition. The annual fundraising event is supported by artists and local schools and groups. Mid City staff, including executive director Alice Reeves, will be on hand Feb. 1 to answer questions about the fundraiser. To participate in the bowl-making event Feb. 1, RSVP by calling (810) 989-5709 or emailingkjezewski@sc4.edu
