Linda Davis, St. Clair County Community College’s dean of instructional support services, and Debra Lacey, SC4’s eLearning coordinator, together will make two presentations at the Instructional Technology Council’s eLearning 2013 conference. The conference will be from Feb. 17 to 20, in San Antonio, Texas. One presentation, “Roadblock or stepping stone? Getting students prepared,” will address how a registration prerequisite for online courses can be a stepping stone and building block for students to better use the online classroom and to free up the beginning of the semester for faculty by allowing them to share their knowledge of their discipline – not teach students to use the online classroom. The presentation will include how the process happens from a students’ point of view, where and how students can learn about the prerequisite, staff management of the process and the things the SC4 faculty have to say about all of it. Samples of the prerequisite course also will be shared. The second presentation, “Casting the net for faculty development,” will provide flexible and innovative ways to support faculty in the use of technology to create engaging activities for student learning. Topics will range from online instruction to supporting face-to-face classes with technology to integrating new technology into classroom instruction. Participants will be exposed to a variety of situations representing how those tasked with supporting faculty development can be flexible and creative. Successful and not-so-successful experiences will be shared. The Instructional Technology Council is a nonprofit association whose mission is to provide leadership and professional development to its network of eLearning experts by advocating, collaborating, researching and sharing innovative practices and potential in learning technologies.
Distance education practitioners, administrators, instructional professionals and faculty from colleges and universities and corporations serving higher education from across the nation will attend the conference.
