Port Huron City Council will meet this evening and one item up for discussion includes, the approval of spending $135,000 in matching funds to help connect the Bridge to Bay trail between 10th and Military Street. Currently, the trail runs from the county’s northern border through the cities of Port Huron, Marysville, St. Clair and Algonac. The city has applied for $250,614 in federal grant funds through the Michigan Department of Transportation, and in order to secure that grant, must promise the matching funds. Officials say the connection would be built along the previous CN railroad right-of-way between the two streets, on property that the city owns. Mayor Pro Tem, Sherry Archibald says the trail will make the city even more pedestrian friendly, and the response from the community has been in favor of the trail.
