St. Clair County Community Mental Health (SCCCMH) will host the first Annual “Art of Recovery Celebration” on Thursday, March 14th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at 3111 Electric Avenue in Port Huron. The event will include art work, limerick poetry, Irish appetizers and a one act Irish play, “Mr. Flannery’s Ocean” by Lewis John Carlino. Guests will be invited to vote for their favorite appetizer, piece of art and poem. Door prizes will be awarded to lucky guests. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Call (810)985-8900 for tickets and information. Since 2005 SCCCMH has provided creative arts classes. Participating in creative arts classes allows students to build pathways for discovery and recovery. Showcasing the talents of individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities underlines the potential all people have and reduces community stigma that often accompanies people with disabilities.
