The Michigan Department of Education has released the Fall 2012 Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) scores for public schools, grades 3-9. Scores can be viewed on the Times Herald website. Blue Water Area superintendents seem to be pleased with the progress shown through the Michigan Educational Assessment Program test scores. Scores were released to the public Monday and showed gains in reading, writing and math in all grade levels across the state of Michigan, but more work is needed in the area of science. “We’re beginning to see the trending going the other way, but we still have some work to do,” said Port Huron Area School District Superintendent H. Ronald Wollen. “There’s no question we are beginning to move in the right direction.” District scores improved for fourth-grade writing, fifth-grade reading, sixth-grade social studies, seventh-grade reading and writing and eighth-grade reading. Math scores also improved in third through eighth grades. The Port Huron Area School District’s biggest declines came in sixth-grade reading and fifth-grade science.
