The state House has unanimously approved legislation to help make sure all Michigan veterans receive the benefits and discounts they deserve, state Rep. Dan Lauwers announced. House Bill 4037, approved with bipartisan support and co-sponsored by Lauwers, creates a special designation on Michigan driver’s licenses for all veterans. ”Our ultimate goal is to make sure all Michigan veterans get the benefits they wholeheartedly deserve, and a special veterans designation on their driver’s licenses is an effective way to accomplish this worthy goal,” said Lauwers, R-Brockway Township. “Veterans have done so much to protect our freedoms and safeguard our way of life. We can help honor them by making it easier for veterans to identify themselves and receive important benefits.” As an extra safeguard to ensure veterans are receiving their benefits, the Secretary of State’s office also will provide the application information to Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The House also approved similar legislation placing the designation on Michigan identification cards. The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.
