Each year, the Governor’s Fitness Awards honor individuals, organizations and events for their commitment to healthy lifestyles and the ways in which they inspire active communities. This year, residents throughout the State of Michigan are invited to participate in the selection process and vote for their favorite finalist during the first annual People’s Choice Award Contest. The People’s Choice Award honors an outstanding individual for their accomplishments and dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Chef James Kokenyesdi, Supervisor of The Galley at St. Clair County Community Mental Health (CMH), is a People’s Choice Award finalist in the Champion for Health category. As the CMH Food Service Program Supervisor, Chef Kokenyesdi provides education and training to individuals served by CMH. The goal of this program is to prepare individuals for employment in the food service industry. In addition, Chef Kokenyesdi teaches Cooking Matters classes to individuals of all ages in St. Clair County providing education and training on how to prepare and shop sensibly for healthy meals on a limited budget. To view Chef Kokenyesdi’s award video and to place your vote for the 2013 People’s Choice Award recipient, visit: http://www.michiganfitness.org/gfa-peoples-choice-awards.
