11th Annual Suckerfest Festival This Sunday
Residents and friends of Adair, Michigan are preparing for their 11th Annual Suckerfest Festival & parade starting at noon on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Everyone is invited to join in and participate. After the parade, there will be food provided St. Matthew Church & Smoke Another One BBQ. Eleven years ago, John Slota, proprietor of the Adair Bar and organizer of the Suckerfest, approached The Salvation Army to see if they could use food for their pantry and cash to help the needy. From modest beginnings, both the Suckerfest Parade and the excitement of giving have grown tremendously. Last year’s Suckerfest parade and related activities brought in over $43,000.00 and food items. This helped the Salvation Army’s ministry for the needy in St. Clair County. John’s son, Kurt has joined the team this year. They are also aided by Major John Pavlik of Adair Salvage, who has been working on the food drive, and Emilee Hartwig, who produced the Adair Suckerfest Magazine. Disaster Team member Tom Cook will drive the Port Huron Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Canteen in the event. “This spirit of selfless giving is alive and well in Adair.” said Major Mark Turner, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army. “Their generosity is amazing.” For additional details, call:
