Kay McGuigan, academic services secretary, was named Educational Support Personnel Member of the Year at a staff luncheon ceremony Friday, May 10, at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron. McGuigan of St. Clair is retiring after 21 years at SC4. Members of the Educational Support Personnel employee group voted to name her Member of the Year. Other nominees were Melanie Gofton of Port Huron, print shop operator, and Jackie Rummel of Port Huron, accounts payable clerk.
Martha Pennington, marketing coordinator at St. Clair County Community College, was named Career Plan Member of the Year for 2013 at a staff luncheon ceremony Friday, May 10, on the Port Huron campus. Pennington of Port Huron began her SC4 career in 2010. Members of the two Career Plan employee groups voted to name her Member of the Year. Also nominated for the award were Bonnie DiNardo of St. Clair, manager of recruitment and testing, and Jessica Flann of Port Huron, financial aid officer.
Cindie Wade, professor of mathematics at St. Clair County Community College, was honored as the 2013 SC4 Distinguished Faculty Award winner. The award is based on a faculty member’s personal and professional impact with students and colleagues and in the community. It is voted on by the entire faculty membership. Wade of Dryden began her career at the college in 1983. Wade received the award during a staff luncheon ceremony Friday, May 10, on the Port Huron campus. The award also gets recognition during the college’s 89th annual Commencement ceremony. Wade holds a bachelor of science degree from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant and a master of arts in curriculum and teaching from Michigan State University in East Lansing.
Three St. Clair County Community College faculty members were honored during the 89th annual Commencement ceremony Friday, May 10, with the Del James Blessinger Award for Teaching Excellence. Winner of the Blessinger full-time faculty award was Sharon Armstrong of Burtchville Township, associate degree nursing professor. Winning the adjunct faculty award were Robert Kroll of Almont, English instructor, and Timothy Owens of Port Huron, Spanish instructor. Stephen Saffee, Blessinger Foundation trustee, awarded the honors during the Commencement ceremony.
The award was established by the late Del James Blessinger in appreciation of an award he received while an SC4 student. SC4 students, faculty, staff and administrators can submit award nominations. This is the Blessinger Foundation’s 25th anniversary. In the past quarter-century, the foundation has awarded more than $500,000 to provide financial aid to SC4 students, financial support for the college’s Library and financial recognition of teaching excellence.
