KidSAKE is selling chocolates – among other things – to raise money for its team to return to Honduras in June to build a chicken coop and purchase chickens for the Clementina Martinez Soup Kitchen in Cane, Honduras. This is the culmination of 13 years of one of the Foundation’s projects: work with the women of the soup kitchen by creating a microenterprise business for them to be self-supporting. The team will also complete filming and research for the capstone project of a book about the stories of the women of the kitchen. The fundraiser will be held at Kate’s Downtown in Port Huron on Friday, May 31 from 7pm to 9pm. The evening will feature fair trade chocolates, chocolate wine, a silent auction (inlcuding the Hoosier pictured in this release), entertainment, and Kate’s baked goods (donated). There is no admission cost to the event. Additionally, chocolates being sold for the fundraiser will be available at various downtown businesses right up to the night of the fundraiser. Patrons can also go online (www.thekidsakefoundation.wordpress.com) anytime and click on the “Make A Donation” button to make a donation for the trip. KidSAKE Foundation, is located at 331 Huron Ave., Port Huron, and is open 10am till 8pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Its storefront, Art For Good, features a Creative Cafe and Art Bar, as well as fair trade chocolates, coffees, teas and Michigan products.
