Ford Motor Company Accelerated Action Day was set for Friday, May 10, 2013 to create a Better World throughout the United States. As a Community Partner, A Beautiful Me®, was one of many non-profits that were awarded grant dollars to complete a project. Ford provided more than $120,000 in grants in 10 states – Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina and Washington. A Beautiful Me® serves throughout southeast Michigan building girls self-esteem and created a project for a Port Huron, Michigan non-profit, Hunter Hospitality House. This large scaled project was funded by Ford Motor Company and completed in just over 10 hours by 24 volunteers ranging in age from 14-55 years of age throughout the day. Volunteers traveled from Macomb County and Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada to complete a “Sanctuary of Peace & Affirmation” in the backyard of Hunter Hospitality House to assist in restoring the physical and emotional health of a primary caregiver – an outdoor respite for those in the midst of a love one’s medical crisis. “The day began with a steady rain but the volunteers were dedicated to serve. Every person was instrumental in completing this beautiful respite and worked together to produce the final product and we are very grateful. The students from Hope Lutheran School in Port Coquitlam, BC had their first experience in the United States with this project as part of their mission work.” states Karen Palka, A Beautiful Me® Founder & Executive Director.
