The Marysville City Council are looking to approve the 2013-2014 budget as their regular meeting gets underway at 7:30 p.m. The budget shows a reduction of some $230,000, which comes through a restructuring of the public safety administration, which would see the current Fire Chief Thomas Konik moving to the position of director of public safety. Current assistant Police Chief Ronald J. Buckmaster would then move to assistant public safety director under the realignment. While six of the seven council members are likely to vote yes, mention has been made that when the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments reviewed the operations in Marysville, they cautioned that further reduction of police staffing could result in a decrease in efficiency and effectiveness of department. Reports say that for a city the size of Marysville there should be 16 police officers; currently there are 13 and that include the chief and his assistant.
